That way, instead of going into the dashboard for every task, you ask your assistant for what you need and it takes care of it for you. The Modular DS MCP is an evolving product and is currently in **public beta**. We keep adding tools and features, so what it can do will grow over time. ## What the Modular DS MCP is MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a standard that lets AI assistants connect to external tools and act on them. The Modular DS MCP server is what gives assistants like Claude or ChatGPT access to your account, so they can look up information and carry out actions on your sites for you. The assistant always works within one of your organizations and recognizes your sites just as you have them in Modular DS: with their teams, their tags and their connection through the Modular Connector plugin. The MCP is **available on all plans** and, until the end of the year, with no usage limit. ## What you can do with it With the MCP you can ask your assistant to do things on a single site or across all your sites at once. Some of the main ones: * **Connect and manage your sites.** Add a new site and connect it, reconnect one that has lost its connection, or check which ones are connected. For example: "Connect this site to Modular DS" or "Which sites have lost their connection?" * **Update plugins, themes and WordPress.** See what has pending updates and apply them with [__a safe update__](https://help.modulards.com/en/article/what-are-safe-updates-and-how-to-run-them-1x7zdin/) or even automate them. For example: "Update the plugins on this site using a safe update." * **Check your sites' security.** Review vulnerabilities, the results of the "Malware Scan" and the "Health & Security" checks, and manage Patch & Protect. For example: "Which of my sites have critical vulnerabilities?" * **Keep track of your backups.** Check the status and coverage of your backups. For example: "Which sites don't have a recent backup?" * **Monitor availability and SSL.** Check whether a site is down, its uptime and the status of its certificates. For example: "Is any site down right now?" * **Apply your global configurations.** Assign your sites the configurations for backups, "Uptime Monitor", "Malware Scan" and "Broken Links Checker". For example: "Apply the daily backup configuration to the sites with this tag." * **Manage maintenance tasks.** Add extra tasks, such as a PHP version upgrade, to all your sites or to those with a given tag. For example: "Add the PHP version upgrade task to the sites tagged monthly-maintenance." * **Manage notifications and contacts.** Set up which events trigger alerts, through which channels and to whom. For example: "Notify me when a site goes down." * **Manage your clients.** Create and organize your client records and their contact details. For example: "Which sites are assigned to the client Acme?" * **Organize your sites.** Create teams, tag sites and keep your account tidy. For example: "Tag the sites in the Acme team as premium-client." ## Who it's for and when to use it The MCP is designed for agencies, freelancers or hosting companies that manage several WordPress sites and already work with an AI assistant every day. If you maintain many sites, it saves you going into the dashboard for every query or change, and it lets you handle tasks that affect several sites at once. To configure features in depth or review visual details, the Modular DS dashboard is still the place to go. ## What it can't do (yet) Some actions are still only available in the dashboard. Right now, with the MCP you can't: * Create or schedule reports * Access your credentials * Manage redirects * Manage WordPress users * Restore or migrate a site from a backup * Change your plan or check your billing As the MCP is an evolving product, we'll keep expanding what it can do as we add new tools. ## Security and permissions The MCP always acts on your behalf and with your permissions: it works within one of your organizations and your role determines what it can do. Access is authorized through OAuth sign-in, without the assistant ever handling your credentials. In addition, actions that delete or change something irreversibly ask for a **two-step confirmation**: the assistant first shows you what it's going to do and only carries it out once you give the go-ahead. ## How to get started To use the MCP, you first need to connect it to your AI assistant.
