# What happens if I use all my available storage for backups

The storage space for your backups in Modular DS depends on your plan and **is shared across all your websites**. If you reach the limit of this space, it's important to know how to act so your backups keep running normally.

When your storage is full or exceeded, no new backups will be generated for your sites, and this situation remains until space is freed up.

## Where to see your storage

You can check your storage usage in three places within Modular DS.

###### On your plan icon

In the top bar of the Modular DS dashboard you'll see a round icon shaped like a sector chart (the classic pie chart). When you click it, a summary of your account opens with your available websites and users, and the storage used out of your total plan.

You can also click "view detailed table" there to check how much each of your websites is using and identify the ones taking up the most space.

###### Inside a site's backup settings

In the "Backups" section, when you open a site's backup settings, you'll see the storage used out of the total available, for example, 135.97 GB/100.00 GB.

If you have storage overage enabled, it will appear active and you'll be able to go beyond your plan's base limit up to the maximum allowed.

## Solutions

If you've reached your space limit, you can do one of the following so your backups run smoothly again.

* **Free up space:** you can manually delete old backups on any site. Since storage is global for your whole account, this frees up space immediately and lets backup generation resume.
* **Enable daily incremental backups:** if you haven't enabled them yet, [incremental backups ](https://help.modulards.com/en/article/what-are-incremental-backups-in-modular-ds-11f1f2v/)only save the changes since the previous copy, so they take up much less space than making a full backup every day. 
* **Wait for automatic deletion:** backups are automatically deleted according to the[ __retention policy__](https://help.modulards.com/en/article/backup-retention-policy-ptu8sc/) set for each site (by default, 45 days after creation), gradually freeing up space.
* **Expand your storage:** you can[ __enable storage overage__](https://help.modulards.com/en/article/overage-expand-your-pro-plan-limits-1demnet/) to go beyond your plan limit, or switch to a plan with more capacity.
