How to activate and setup Uptime Monitor on your website

Modular DS's Uptime Monitor watches your sites continuously and alerts you the moment one stops responding, so you can act before the problem affects your visitors.

In this article we show you how to activate it, how to create global configurations to apply it to several websites at once, and what settings you have available.

Activate the Uptime Monitor

To get started, go to your website overview and select the Uptime Monitor module in the left side menu. You can also click "Enable Uptime Monitor" in the Uptime widget on the right hand side.

If you access from the left side menu, the first thing you'll have to do is activate monitoring in order to configure it.

How to create a global configuration

Just like backups, the malware analysis or the Broken Links Checker, the Uptime Monitor works with global configurations: you define once how you want to monitor your sites and apply that configuration to as many as you like.

From the "Global configurations" tab you can see the ones you've already created and create new ones with the "Create global configuration" button.

Each configuration has the name you give it, so you can have several for different types of website and apply them wherever you want without adjusting each site separately.

Inside the configuration you define how monitoring is performed with these settings:

Check interval

Decide how often we check your site. You can change the check frequency: every 15 minutes on Freelance, every 5 minutes on Starter, and every 2 minutes on Business and Enterprise.

Response time to consider the site as down

Set after how much time without a response we consider your site down. Choose a time longer than it takes your website to load to avoid unnecessary alarms.

Keywords (Keyword monitor)

Enter keywords that should always be present on your site. If we don't detect them during the check, we'll warn you, which is useful to identify hacks or content errors.

Examples of these words are "Legal notice" or the company name, which usually appear in the footer.

Here you have two options:

Non-strict mode: only one of the words you enter needs to appear on the website for us to consider it still working.
Strict mode: all the words you enter must be present in the content of the page for us to consider it working correctly.

Activate alerts ahead of your security certificate's expiration, with warnings 1, 7, 14 or 30 days before it expires. Ideal to make sure your certificate is always renewed in case it doesn't renew automatically.

Notifications

Here you can review the current notification settings for this website.

If you want to change them, you can create and modify your notification settings from the notification management page in your account. There you choose the types of alerts you want to receive, such as Uptime or Downtime, and the channels through which you receive them (email, SMS, etc.).

You can also mark a configuration as default so it applies automatically to the new websites you add to Modular.

Apply a configuration to your websites

Once created, apply the configuration to the sites you want. From the Uptime Monitor global view, click the three dots on each site and select "Apply configuration" to choose which one to use on that site.

With the configuration applied, the Uptime Monitor will start watching your sites and will alert you as soon as it detects that one isn't responding as it should.
