Error connecting a website to Modular

Have you encountered an error message when trying to connect your website to Modular DS? Don't worry, we’re here to help.

Below, you will find the most common causes and how to fix them in order to successfully complete the connection.

Connection error

Check the following key points:

  1. Correct URL: Make sure you entered the public URL of your website correctly in the first step of the connection process. Not the WordPress admin URL, but the URL visitors use to access the site.
  2. PHP version: Modular DS can only connect to websites running PHP version 7.4 or higher. This is for security reasons, as earlier versions have been deprecated and are therefore obsolete, as you can see here.
  3. WordPress version: If your website is running a version earlier than WordPress 5.6, you’ll need to update it before connecting. Security is our priority.
  4. Modular Connector plugin: Ensure you’ve installed the latest version of our plugin. You can download it from this link.
  5. Country restrictions: If you restrict or block traffic by country, please check that Ireland is included in the allowed locations to complete the connection between your site and Modular DS.
  6. Hosting restrictions: Some server / hosting providers block automatic login requests. In this case, you will need to connect the website manually to Modular DS.
  7. Two-factor authentication (2FA) or CAPTCHA: If either of these security measures are enabled to access your WordPress website, you'll have to use the manual connection method.
  8. Plugin incompatibility: You can find the list of known incompatibilities in this article.
  9. Blocked external server calls: If your server blocks external calls to other websites, it won’t allow the connection. In this case, you should contact your hosting provider and ask them to allow requests to https://api.modulards.com/api/ips.
  10. WP Memory Limit: Make sure your server memory limit is at least 128MB. We recommend 256MB, or 512MB for websites using demanding plugins like Elementor or WooCommerce.
  11. SSL connection: If you indicated that your website uses HTTPS during the connection process, verify it has an active and correctly configured SSL certificate.
  12. User permissions: The user account used to establish the connection to Modular DS must have administrator permissions.
  13. Cloudflare - Bot Fight Mode: If this option is enabled in Cloudflare, make sure your account is updated to the new Firewall rules.
