How to create a report template in Modular DS

If you regularly create one-off or different reports for your clients, Modular DS templates let you save a base configuration and reuse it in every new report, without repeating the same settings over and over.

In this article, we'll show you how to create a template and how to manage it afterward.

Create a report template

1. Go to the templates tab

Inside the reports module, open the "Templates" tab. There you'll see the templates you've already created and the "Create template" button to start a new one.

2. Choose your starting point

When you click "Create template", you have three ways to begin:

  • "Template from scratch": configure every setting from the beginning.
  • "From another existing template": start from a template you've already created to build a new one from it.
  • "From a previous report": reuse a report you've already generated as the basis for the template.

Pick the option that best fits what you need and continue.

3. Configure and save the template

From here, the process is the same as creating a report. You'll complete the three usual steps:

  • "General configuration": name, language, date and time format and your logo.
  • "Content": welcome message, modules you want to include and closing message.
  • "Generate report": sending options and recipients.

You'll find the detail of each option in the guide on how to create a report for clients.

When you're done, the configuration is saved as a template and stays available to reuse in your future reports.

Use and manage your templates

All the templates you create appear in the "Templates" tab, inside the reports module. From there you can select them as the basis for a new report, without repeating the configuration each time.

To edit or delete a template, click the three-dot icon that appears to its right and choose the action you want.
