Where can you add a new website?

If you’ve just signed up, go to My websites in the left sidebar, where you’ll see two options:

A “+Website” button at the top of the screen (next to “+Team”).
A central “+Connect website” button.

Both options start the same connection process.

How to add a website

If you’ve already added websites, you’ll only see the “+ Website” button at the top, above your existing sites.

How to add a website to Modular DS

Once you click on either button, follow these steps to connect your website to Modular DS.

1. Enter the basic website details

Public URL: The URL visitors use to access the website (check whether it includes www or not).
Website name: The name you want to assign to the site in Modular DS.
Team: Select the team where the website will be managed. Learn more about teams here.

Error connecting a website to Modular DS

Have you encountered an error message when trying to connect your website to Modular DS? Don't worry, we’re here to help.

Below, you will find the most common causes and how to fix them in order to successfully complete the connection.

Connection error

Check the following key points:

Correct URL: Make sure you entered the public URL of your website correctly in the first step of the connection process. Not the WordPress admin URL, but the URL visitors use to access the site.
PHP version: Modular DS can only connect to websites running PHP version 7.4 or higher. This is for security reasons, as earlier versions have been deprecated and are therefore obsolete, as you can see here.
WordPress version: If your website is running a version earlier than WordPress 5.6, you’ll need to update it before connecting. Security is our priority.
Modular Connector plugin: Ensure you’ve installed the latest version of our plugin. You can download it from this link.
Country restrictions: If you restrict or block traffic by country, please check that Ireland is included in the allowed locations to complete the connection between yo

How to restore a backup in Modular DS

If you need to recover a backup generated by Modular DS, here is a step-by-step guide to restore the two main components of a backup: the database and the files of your website.

You can do it in several ways, depending on whether your website is still connected to Modular DS:

Direct restore from the backup: the fastest option, available if your website is still connected to Modular DS.
Restore from the panel with FTP and database credentials: for when the connection has been lost.
Manual restore: with phpMyAdmin for the database and cPanel, Plesk, FTP, FTPS or SFTP for the files.

Direct restore from a backup

You can now restore a backup directly from the backup itself, without needing to enter FTP or database credentials. It is the fastest way to return your website to a previous state.

This method is only available if your website is still connected to Modular DS. If the connection has been lost, you will need to restore using the FTP and database credentials, following the process we explain below.

1. Open the backup you want to restore

Go to the backups section of the website you want to recover and locate the backup you need. You can start the restore from two places:

Click the three dots on the backup and select "Restore to this version".

Open the backup details and click the "Restore to this version" button.

My website appears as down (Uptime) and I have the Bot Fight Mode active in Cloudflare

If Modular detects your website as down continuously and you have Cloudflare's Bot Fight Mode enabled, we offer two solutions to solve this issue.

1. Add an exception for verified bots

The Modular bot is verified and recognized by Cloudflare. This allows you to easily add an exception to allow its access and ensure that Modular's Uptime Monitor works properly.

Steps to Add Exception:

Access “Security” > “WAF” in your Cloudflare dashboard.
Select “Add Exception”.
Name the exception descriptively and in the field menu, choose the “Known Bots” option.
Implement the changes and wait between 2 and 30 minutes, depending on the configuration of your Uptime Monitor. After this period, the monitor should recognize your website as operational.

2. Enable Modular IPs

If the first solution does not solve the problem, you can try to directly enable Modular IPs in Cloudflare.

If you have the All In One WP Security plugin activated on your website, there is a small adjustment you need to make to ensure that Modular runs smoothly. Don't worry, it's quick and easy.

1. Go to the Firewall: Within All In One WP Security, navigate to the Firewall section.

2. Disable the 6G firewall protection option: Go to the "6G Firewall Rules" tab and make sure the 6G firewall protection it is disabled. This is vital to avoid conflicts with Modular.

To be able to update the WPML plugins from Modular, you should follow the following process:

Install and register WPML on your site or your client's site.
Add the site to your dashboard.
Update WPML using the site updater or the global updater.

You only need to do the first two steps once on each website. The third step, you can do each time an update is available and you want to perform it.

Registering your site with WPML will allow you to receive automatic updates, which are very important for security, performance, and new features that they develop.

To do this, follow these steps:

Start the setup wizard and click 'Get a key for this site' at the registration step. If you already have WPML configured on your site, you can register by going to Plugins → Add New Plugin and clicking on the Commercial tab.
